Annette’s Style Gallery

About Annette

Annette is a working mother and a fashion and beauty enthusiast. She can often be found exploring bookstores and cafes in the Bay Area. Historically, she spent more time and attention on makeup than clothing, but she has always had luxurious taste and an eye for high-end fashion.

Annette’s Style Goals

Annette loves the drama and ease of androgynous, louche silhouettes. She enjoys Scandinavian and French inspiration, from both male and female fashion. Her taste straddles the line between professional and casual, incorporating traditional menswear and business shapes, but relaxed and expanded into more dramatic fashion silhouettes. Now that her child is a toddler, she is ready to spend a little more time shopping and selecting pieces to express her fashion sensibilities.

Annette’s Style needs

Annette’s outfits need to transition easily between work and home life. She wants her clothing to flatter her facial features and coloring, so that she does not feel drab, or that she needs excessive makeup to look more alert.

My Styling suggestions

I see Annette’s ideal wardrobe building blocks as refined separates that can be mixed and matched with ease. Patterns should be large, almost colorblocked, rather than busy or literal. Dark Winter’s neutrals are earthier than their True Winter counterparts, so Annette can select from a range of espresso browns, limestone whites, and deep charcoals which feel refined, grounded, and cool. However, I recommended acquiring some everyday staples in her inky jewel tones in order to ensure outfits don’t become dull and monotone. Dark Winter particularly excels at deep red and pink shades—Annette is not so excited about pink, so she will focus on ruby, garnet, and burgundy wine shades. The deepest shades of emerald and teal are signature colors for most Dark Winters, and Annette can easily work these tones into her wardrobe.

The natural world influence’s Dark Winter’s textural contrasts, and work best when layered and mixed. Fabrics that work well for Annette may be wooly and fuzzy, satin-shiny, or pebbled. The beautiful geometry in Annette’s face reminded me of the delicate work of a stonecutter. She has an elegant, cool, and relaxed facial posture and pulls off the very shapes she is most attracted to. Annette’s best fashion shapes are rectangular but organic—lean and slouchy that stand slightly askew. Pants may be trouser-style, wide legged, or cargo-influenced. Casual top options run from boxy, sturdy tee shirts with bateau or square necklines to sweaters with slash or funnel necks. Annette also looks wonderful in oversized collared shirts, and for more dressy work occasions, she can honor her lines with high-necked satin blouses that include some asymmetry or draping.

In keeping with Annette’s androgynous style influences, I suggested sculptural and blunt shapes for jewelry, rendered in pewter, brushed silver, and gunmetal finishes. Her Dark Winter colors benefit from incorporating a little shine and sparkle. However, high-shine finishes feel too glam for Annette, and a more textured look harmonizes well with the shadowy Dark Winter palette. Jewelry designed for men is a great option for those women who enjoy rougher or more casual looks. Dangling earrings will likely be too dainty for her—chunky hoops, huggies, and studs are more appropriate.

Annette prefers a stronger eye look with a nude lip. For a Dark Winter, this means a dab of cherry or burgundy balm on the lips, which registers as a totally natural flush of real color. For her eyes, she will be experimenting with colorful liner in a range of teal, burgundy, and plum along with smoky dark taupe and reflective pewter shimmers. For easy makeup days, she can rely on that same burgundy balm on the lips and cheeks alone, and let her outfit’s rich, vibrant shades bring out the natural definition in her face.
